미국의 저비용 항공사를 필두로 항공기 좌석 전체를 ‘등받이 고정 좌석’으로 설치하여 운영하려는 움직임이 늘고 있다.
이같은 방식은 항공사 입장에서는 더 많은 승객을 태울 수 있고, 등받이 젖힘 기능과 관련된 정비 이슈도 사전에 제거가 가능하다. 그리고 좌석의 무게도 더 가볍기 때문에 연료 효율성도 좋아진다.
